This 4 hour class is designed for the new shooters of ALL skill levels who want to become more comfortable with the use of a handgun. Students will learn handgun types, operation, ammunition, use, safety, transportation, storage, and marksmanship.

Tom McDonald will serve as the lead instructor for the class. Tom served 30-years with the Los Angeles Police Department. His career included assignments as a Gang Enforcement Officer, as a Field Training Officer. and as an element member in LAPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team where he served a Scout on an entry team, as a SWAT sniper, and as a Hostage Negotiator. During this period, LAPD SWAT trained extensively with numerous local SWAT teams, the FBI’s enhanced Los Angeles SWAT team as well as the Bureau’s Hostage Rescue Team, and many US military and international Tier-1 teams. Tom also served as a Tactics Instructor in the LAPD Recruit Academy as well as a Training Supervisor for two Divisions of the Department. Tom was selected by the LAPD to tour the US for nearly a year attending and observing various military, Federal, State, local, and commercial firearms and tactical training schools in an effort to develop and establish what was to become the LAPD’s first and premier advanced tactics training school for in-service police officers.

After retiring from the LAPD in 2013 as a Captain Tom served as the Chief of Police for the City of West Sacramento until he left active service altogether in December of 2019.

Tom is Certified National Rifle Association and Northern Firearms Pistol, CCW Instructor; a California Department of Justice (CA DOJ) certified firearms instructor, a Staff Instructor for Thunder Ranch, Inc. in Lakeview, Oregon, and an Adjunct Instructor for the California Specialized Training Institute in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Cancellation Policy: Training fees include a 50% non-refundable deposit. Cancellations prior to the start of the class will be given a 50% refund of training fees, or a one-time reschedule of training within one year.
